Michelin Tire Legs

***Disclaimer***
Logan's cloth diapers are just very bulky in nature.  He is not carrying around a dirty package with him.
So with that said, I just had to post this picture I took of him the other day.  I realize that once Logan starts walking and burning a million calories a day, it won't be long before his Michelin tire legs disappear for good.  So I had to include this photo of the cute, little rolls on his thighs for our personal, family record.  Logan can thank me later. :-)

Siblings at Play

When Lia is not smothering her brother, she can actually be a wonderful, older sibling.  In fact, she even fed Logan his sweet potato baby food for me the other night while I was making dinner.  Anyways, this is how I found the two of them yesterday in our family room:  playing together on the floor.  So cute!  Turns out there are some perks to a four year gap between kiddos. :-)

The Return of Iggy

For a chapter in Lia's life, the Iggies ruled.  First there was the brown one, then the pink one, then the purple, and the white, and then the entire collection of minis.  Yes, before we knew it, we had adopted an entire family of Iggies and Lia loved them all.  But like so many of her other toys, they eventually lost their luster and were retired to one of the cubbies.  But then the other night, something happened.  White Iggy was pulled from the depths of the stuffed animal drawer and was given a second chance at life.  So you can imagine my surprise when I walked into her room tonight and found him happily snuggled in bed with a giggling Lia.  And then this was the precious picture I found an hour or so later when I was heading to bed.  So, so sweet.  A girl and her Iggy.

Fancy French

One of Lia's favorite book series is Fancy Nancy.  She loves everything about these stories--Nancy's taste in elegant clothes and accessories, her flair for the dramatics, and her love of all things fancy and French.  This has helped Lia to learn a little bit about France, the Eiffel Tower, and the French language.  As a result, this is the spontaneous conversation we had around the dinner table tonight concerning Lia's lesson in church this past Sunday.

Lia:  Do you know what it means to honor your mother and father?  When they tell you to do something, you do it.

Papa:  Yes, it's like obeying.

Mama:  Honoring is like a fancy word for obeying.

Lia:  Yeah, maybe it's French.

My Crawling Machine

When Lia was about six months old, I was given the gift of an idyllic two months where she sat contently on her blanket playing with toys for many minutes at a time before she moved into the crawling stage.  I foolishly assumed that this would be the same with her brother.  Oh, how wrong I was.  Instead of working on sitting proficiently, Logan decided to just skip right over this phase and get to the crawling!   Sometime around the middle of August, he started to take a step or two while standing on "all fours."  Over the course of the next few weeks, a few steps turned into many steps (with a belly-lay in between) and now we have a crawling machine!  He is now nonstop and the thought of sitting passively on a blanket playing with toys holds no interest for him.  In fact, he still can't even sit for very long without tipping over onto his side or leaning over onto his hands.  He is definitely all boy!

Logan, poised and ready to go!

Pausing briefly to allow mama to take a quick picture.

And, he's off!

There is just no stopping this crawling machine.

Celebration Preschool

Yesterday, Lia headed off to her first day of Pre-K at the Lutheran Church across the street from our neighborhood.  Although I did a co-op with some moms last year, I decided to take the plunge and enroll her in a "real" preschool this year for a variety of reasons.  Lia has been waiting for months for this day to arrive and was so excited yesterday morning when she got up.  And I honestly was just as excited as she was because I know how much she is going to love everything about her teacher and class this year.  I think it's going to be a fun year!

Getting ready to go!

Seven Months Old Today!

Logan turned seven months old today!  He really changed a lot in one department this past month--the moving, mobile one!  This kid is all over the place.  A month ago, he was getting up on all fours and rocking back and forth.  Now, Logan does this crawl-thing where he gets up and takes one crawl-step with his arms and legs and then gets done on his belly and then repeats the entire process over again.  He kind of looks like an inchworm.  As unorthodox as his crawl is, it works.  He can clear a room in twenty seconds flat!  Logan now follows us all around the house, getting into everything along the way.  His current favorite "toys" of choice?  Remote controls, wires, and heat vents.  He really has no interest in sitting and playing with toys.  In fact, he is way better at crawling than he is at sitting which is the complete opposite of how his sister did it.  He also has become a complete maniac on the changing table.  Trying to change his diaper or his clothes is now comparable to an Olympic sport.  I almost break out in sweat because he is fighting me so badly and trying to flip over onto his belly.  Crazy boy.  Besides that, he cut his first tooth last Tuesday, September 4th (or at least that's when I first saw it).  When he gets upset, he will sometimes say, "mama mama mama," over and over again before it turns into a full-blown cry.  Possible first word?  I'd like to think so.  :-)  Logan also has quite an appetite and is eating large amounts of baby food three times a day.  He is also still sleeping well and only requires a pacifier run one or two times on most nights.  He weighed twenty pounds at his six month check-up, is wearing 9 and 12 month size clothing, and is just the cutest chunker around.  We sure love our growing boy!

The Puyallup Fair!

It's hard to believe that it is September already and time for the fair again.  We took Logan and Lia downtown on Saturday to spend the day eating, riding, and animal watching.  We went in the morning for some food and rides and back in the evening to watch Uncle Oscar perform and gander at the animals.  As always, good times were had.  Logan hung in there like a champ and Lia couldn't get enough of Sillyville.  I think we blew a small fortune on ride tickets for Lia...so it's a good thing that we have another twelve months to save up for our return!

Lia and I eating the quintessential Puyallup Fair treat:  scones with jam!

First stop in Sillyville:  the carousal, of course!

Lia and I climbing to the top of the giant slide.

And down we go!

Riding a sparkly motorcycle--one of Lia's favorite rides since she was two.

Our faithful sidekick--as cute as can be!

Taking the train for a ride.

Fishing for an octopus.

Lia posing at lunch time with her newly-won duck.

And eating some ice cream (poor Logan--Lia has all the fun!).

Uncle Oscar performing with his Filipino dance group.

Papa and the kids wandering down heifer-lane.

The gorgeous sunset that appeared that evening.

Finishing off the evening posing with a giant pumpkin carved like a castle.  Oh, one never knows what they will find at the Puyallup Fair!
