After taking Lia skiing last month to White Pass and seeing how much progress she made her second time skiing, we decided that we should take her one more time this winter to help reinforce the skills that she is working on. After consulting our calendar and talking to my mom to see if she would be able to watch Logan and Ella one more time, we locked in our final ski day of the season on St. Patrick's Day. We decided to go skiing to Crystal Mountain--the resort that is closest to us and absolutely fabulous! Although they charge an arm and a leg for a two-hour morning lesson, children 10 years of age and younger are free. Since we thought that Lia had learned enough from her past two lessons, we decided to skip the lesson this time and try out Crystal Mountain while she was still young enough to be free. Once again, we delivered Logan and Ella to my parents last night for a slumber party so that we could get up bright and early this morning without having to worry about delivering children to the grandparents' house at the crack of dawn. We cruised up to Crystal in a little over an hour and spent the entire day together. Ron and I never found the need to split off to go solo skiing/boarding since Lia had graduated off of the magic carpet hill. We had so much fun going on several different chair lifts with Lia all day long and we were amazed at how confident she became on green circle runs. The only mishaps of the day were Ron being totally taken out by an out-of-control skier who didn't know how to stop (causing him to have one of the worst wrecks of his boarding career) and taking Lia up the gondola which only has blue square runs back down the mountain which proved to be too difficult for Lia. As a result, it was a bit of a disaster getting to the bottom of the run with lots of frustration and tears. However, we made it to the bottom and recovered enough to spend another wonderful hour with Lia before calling it quits at 4 o'clock. Overall, it was a great way to spend St. Patrick's Day and we are so grateful to live in an area where skiing is close by and where grandparents are willing to watch our younger ones and make it all possible.
