Although Ron was busy with an evening obligation for work, I decided for the second year in a row to take the children to the amazing, living nativity that is put on each year by a large, Adventist church in Auburn. Since I knew that Ron wouldn't be able to go with us when I purchased the tickets last month, I invited my mom to join us instead. She came down to spend the afternoon with us before we had an early dinner and rushed out of the door a little before 5 p.m. to make it to the church in time for our 5:30 reservations. We bundled up the kids and set out into the dark and cold night to enter the ancient world of Bethlehem that this church always does such an amazing job of recreating every year. We followed our tour guides through the market place of Bethlehem, past the Roman leaders and soldiers, and even through a wedding before we stumbled back outside. We were then able to talk to the shepherds and witness the star in the sky and the angels singing before we found the baby Jesus with Mary and Joseph in a stable. This is such a wonderful way to remind my children why we celebrate Christmas every year as the nativity story is literally brought to life before their eyes. It really helps to remind us of the real reason of the season and I hope that we can keep this tradition going for many years to come!
