A Ski Day with Lia

After Ron and I took Lia skiing to Schweitzer over Christmas break, we decided that we should try to get her up to the ski slopes at least one more time before the winter season ended to help build her skill level and confidence.  After consulting the calendar, we decided to go in February during our midwinter break.  My parents were kind enough to agree to watch Ella and Logan for an entire day and even asked to have them stay over the night before since we were leaving at six in the morning to go skiing.  We headed out closer to 6:30 this morning and drove over 2.5 hours to White Pass Ski Resort which had been recommended to both Ron and me by different people.  Although White Pass is farther away than a few other local, ski resorts, it is known for much more affordable prices and less crowds.  We got up there a little after nine in the morning and rushed off to buy our ski tickets and rent Lia's ski gear.  We got to the ski school area right as the 10 o'clock lesson was starting.  Lia was put in a Level 2 class with just one other girl and spent the next hour on the two, different magic carpet hills.  Ron and I enjoyed "skoarding" two runs together during her lesson.  We then met back up with her at 11 o'clock and after talking to her teacher and discussing what she needed to focus on, I decided to spend an extra hour with her on the larger, magic carpet hill giving her a private lesson.  It turned out to be really beneficial as Lia improved so much by the end of the two hours.  She was skiing down the hill with such confidence and was doing great on her turns!  It was so fun to be up there with her on this beautiful, sunny morning skiing on fresh snow.  After breaking for lunch, we took Lia up the chairlift and down her first, "real" ski hill.  She really enjoyed herself and didn't get upset at all when she fell.  We took her up this ski left three more times by the end of the afternoon.  Lia had a great time and really got comfortable skiing back and forth in a zig zag formation making her turns all the way down the ski run.  She was so happy and so cute.  Ron and I could not get over how much she had improved from the beginning of the day and especially from her first day skiing in December.  We really enjoyed spending this last day of Lia's ninth year of life all alone with her.  It is a day we will never forget!
