After getting on the phone with the consulting nurse at our children's doctor's office, I learned that the Urgent Care was still open and had been divided into to halves--the healthy, but injured half and the sick-with-a-fever/Coronavirus half. Since the cut on Logan's lip just touched his upper lip (and didn't continue into his lip), the nurse informed me that he most likely could get it stitched up at Urgent Care instead of the Emergency Room. Apparently, if the cut had continued down into his lip, it is much more difficult to repair and requires the expertise of an ER doctor. After learning this good news, Ron quickly removed all of the bikes that he had already loaded onto the car and drove off to the Urgent Care with a bleeding and scared Logan in the back.
After arriving at the doctor's office, Ron found a nurse in the parking lot who took Logan's temperature from the car. They were then asked to park in the parking lot where Ron checked in on his phone. He then only had to wait about 10 to 15 minutes in the car before he received a text that told them that they could come into the building and check in immediately into an exam room. They bypassed talking to a receptionist at the front desk and waiting on chairs in the waiting room. Ron was very impressed by how smoothly and efficiently this entire process went in an attempt to limit any social contact with others due to the Coronavirus pandemic going on in our state. After the nurse met them in the waiting room and checked them into the exam room, they only had to wait a few minutes before the doctor arrived. After a thorough examination, the doctor decided that Logan would need three stitches to fix the tear above his lip. After two applications of numbing creme, the doctor stitched up Logan's cut. Ron said that he was extremely brave throughout this entire process and was so impressed with how well he did. The two of them arrived home about 1.5 hours later and we were all so grateful that they were able to get in and out of Urgent Care so quickly--especially with the medical crisis currently going on in our country.
Logan is now home and resting. He has a very swollen lip and a big, bloody mess above it. He is not talking much and wants nothing to do with his bike at the current moment. I am just so relieved that Logan's injuries are not worse than they are and that he doesn't have a broken bone or a concussion. After looking at a picture taken of him smiling the other day, we were able confirm that his lost tooth was luckily a baby tooth and not an adult one. As a result, we will not have a massive and expensive dental procedure to take care of in the future. After all is said and done, it looks like Logan will walk away from this accident pretty unscathed with an awesome scar above his lip and an expected visit from his Tooth Fairies tonight.
