Lia's Winter Concert

Amazingly enough, Lia got to participate in her first school concert of her singing career last night.  After learning last year that Lia could waiver out of one semester PE/one semester Health her 8th grade year if she wanted to take a second, arts elective, I submitted the form to her principal for approval last Spring.  This allowed her to take both drama (her first love) and choir (a second love) this school year.  Since Lia has expressed an interest for years in performing in her high school musicals, I told her that it is really crucial to get involved in her school's choral program.  Although she really knew no one in her choir class (besides a few kids from church who are a year older than her), she made friends with some of the girls in her Soprano section and has really enjoyed singing in this class on a daily basis.  And, by some small miracle, her school received permission from the district to put on their first concert last night.
Lia looked so grown up when she appeared downstairs all dress in her choir uniform that consisted of black slacks we had to buy on our own, a white tux shirt we ordered through the choir teacher, and a vest we checked out from the school.  She was really nervous, but like everything she tries that is new, she did a great job and gained some confidence that this is something that she can do again and again.  After dropping Lia off at the school an hour early at 6, we returned 40 minutes later with the younger kids in tow to find a packed cafeteria.  Luckily, we were able to find a spot in the far right corner to set up our "pod" of seats that allowed us to be really close to the performers--just off to the side.  Ella and Logan did a great job watching the entire concert and Ron and I managed to keep Emmett some what under control through the orchestras and two choral groups performances.  Luckily, the library was open to take him to during the band's final performances of the night where he could run around behind a closed door.  Lia did a great job and it was so much fun to watch her sing her three songs--especially one of my all-time favorites, "Carol of the Bells," that I loved singing every Christmas all throughout my high school choir career.  Good job, Lia!  I can't wait to watch you sing for years to come!

This is one of the blurry pictures I took of Lia's Soprano section while taking a video at the same time.

The one picture I managed to take of Lia in the cafeteria after the choir concert was over.
