Cape Disappointment Camping

We just completed our first camping trip of the summer to Cape Disappointment on the Washington Coast yesterday.  A month after Ron bought his little camper, he and the kids went camping here December 2017 and absolutely loved it.  As a result, I have wanted to go here ever since.  I was able to make reservations back in March for a Monday to Wednesday since all of the weekends in July were already booked.  After only being home two days from Priest Lake, we packed up all of our gear and headed out on July 29th.  We made it there a few hours later and thoroughly enjoyed our two nights and three days at Cape Disappointment.  The campground was so close to the ocean and the beach was so beautiful.  We were blessed with sunny weather all three days and had an enjoyable time hanging out in our campground and playing on the beach.  In addition, baby Emmett did a great job on his first camping trip.  While Ron and the kids slept in the camper and the roof top tent, Emmett and I slept in the regular tent both nights.  He did great in his pack 'n play and slept through the night (without even needing a pacifier plug in) until waking up at 5 and 6:30 both mornings.  I'll take that as a success any day on a camping trip with a baby!  I'm so glad that we were able to squeeze this trip in before Ron headed back to work full-time today.  We have had a very busy and packed July and I am so grateful for all that we have been able to do and see with a little one in tow!

After setting up camp and eating dinner on Monday evening, July 29th, we were able to head out to the beach for the sunset.  It was so beautiful out there!  Here is baby Emmett and me with Lia and Ella up on the rock behind us.

Lia and Ella posing on an awesome piece of driftwood on the beach.

And Logan doing the same.

The kids and me on a fallen log.

The three older kiddos exploring the 'cave' at the end of the beach.

A cool log jam at the far end of the beach.

Adorable baby Emmett with papa.

The kids and Ron all climbed to the top of the huge rock at the edge of the water.  Here is Logan at the top.

Little Ella at the bottom of the rock.

Lia above and Ella below.

Ron was able to take this picture of Lia on the opposite (ocean) side of the rock.

Another shot of Logan on the rock.

The Hartland fam and the Pacific Ocean at sunset.

The kids thoroughly enjoyed playing in and fighting over the hammock Ron bought several camping trips ago.  Here is Logan hanging upside down Tuesday morning before breakfast.

A head shot of Logan with Ella wrapped up inside the hammock.

Ella poking her head out.  Much to my amazement, the kids only fell out of the hammock a few times during the three days we were there.

Lia hanging out with baby Emmett on the blanket that we laid out for him in the middle of our campground.

Logan's funny looking face staring out at me from the right side of the roof top tent's window.

After breakfast, Logan, Lia, and I went out to the beach to explore.  Here they are with the beautiful lighthouse in the background.

A close up of the light house on the bluff.

All three kiddos swinging in the hammock at lunch time.

A close up of Ella and Logan.

After lunch, we walked down the beach and spent several hours down there.  Here is Ron showing off his 'Maui hook' from the Disney movie, Moana.

Lia showing off the "R + L" heart that she drew on the sand in honor of her parents.

Ron rigged up this little bed complete with a canopy for Emmett in our wagon.  He even got him to take a nap in there.

The three older kids playing in the water and rescuing stranded jelly fishes.

Logan giving me a smile.

Ella and Lia.

Another family pose with a sleeping Emmett.

The kids enjoyed exploring several forts made out of driftwood on the beach.

We walked quite a ways down the beach and stumbled across the dead carcass of a giant, grey whale.  Although it stunk horribly, it was amazing to see a whale up close!

We set out Wednesday morning, July 31st, for a walk to the light house and a look out point.  Unfortunately, the light house was closed for renovations, so we were unable to explore inside it. This was a close as we could get to it.

An adorable picture of a smiling Emmett riding on papa's back on the lighthouse trail.

The fam and the lighthouse in the background.

The kids and the ocean with a cool wind swept tree in the background.

The kids running back up the trail to catch up with Ron and the baby.

We then hiked to a look out point and past an old water tower in the woods.

We also past some WWII bunkers that looked out on the ocean.  The kids enjoyed exploring it...

and climbing on the roof.

Ron and the kids checking out the view before heading back to our campground to eat lunch and pack up before heading home.

A final shot of the Cape Disappointment's coast line.  This camping trip definitely did not disappoint!
