Logan's First Track Meet

Logan participated in his first district-wide, elementary school track meet today at Sparks Stadium.  Just like Lia, he was able to join his school's track team this year since he is now in 5th grade.  He attended practices two days a week for the past six weeks, training for the one big, district meet that is held at the beginning of June.  Luckily, the weather turned out to be gorgeous as we were blessed with beautiful, blue skies and 80 degree weather.  Both Lia and Ella asked to be checked out of school early so that they could go cheer their brother on.  After picking them up early, we arrived at the stadium around 1 p.m. and were blown away by how crowded it was.  We eventually found seats in the student side of the stadium so that we could see the 100-meter dash heats run right past us.  After waiting almost two hours, we made our way down to the side of the track where Logan would run right past us on the first leg of the 4x100 relay that he was asked to run by his track coach and P.E. teacher.  Out of all of the 5th grade, boys' relay teams, Logan's team luckily had been assigned to run in the first heat.  Although I knew that Logan was super nervous, he looked really calm waiting for the officiator to shoot the gun.  Once the gun went off, Logan did an awesome job sprinting as fast as he could right by us and passing all of the other runners.  After he passed off his baton, the next runner on Logan's team sprinted out of the group as the first runner.  Since they had such a strong team, both the second and third runner managed to keep their first place spot that Logan had established.  By the time the baton was passed on to Logan's good friend, Kasen, he was way ahead of the pack and was able to cross the finish line in first place.  It was so exciting to watch Logan's team win and I was just so grateful that Logan's first experience running in a track meet was a positive one.  Unfortunately, we had to check Logan out right after he had completed his race to get Ella home in time for her to be ready for her carpool ride to gymnastics at 3:30.  As a result, Logan didn't find out until the next day from his P.E. teacher that his relay team came in second out all ALL the heats for the 4x100 relay for his age group.  In addition, he learned that his school's 5th grade boys' team won 1st place all around at the meet.  Way to go, Logan!  I am so proud of you!

Although it's a little difficult to see between all of the spectators, here is a picture of Logan passing off the baton to Emery, the second runner, in the relay team.

A darling sibling photo of all four kids lined up in a row from shortest to tallest on our way out of the stadium.
